Recap of Cedarkirk Day Camp
Venice Presbyterian and Cedarkirk Camp and Conference Center teamed up this summer to provide Venice with two weeks of traveling day camp. We had about 60 kids attend our program, which consisted of Bible Study, games, morning meditations, lunch, snacks, adventures, chill time, and so much more! Kids were at church from 8-4 for a full day of camp!
Each day Genna Sarikoki led morning meditation. The kids learned that God loves them so much that He sent Jesus to pay for their wrong doings. In light of that love, we need to strive to live in peace. Every day a new word for peace was taught. We talked about agape being a Greek word of peace and also had the opportunity to try olives, learn a little about Greek culture, and go on an adventure to ‘ancient Greece’ (aka the youth room). Each day we learned about a different culture as we learned their word for peace. In their Bible study, campers were able to engage in conversation with their counselors based on the lesson and scripture passage for the day. As we closed our days, Jocelyn from Cedarkirk led worship time as we prayed and thought about how incorporate the peace of Christ into our every day lives.
Campers loved the many activities that were lined up all day! They were line dancing in the Fellowship Hall, playing gaga ball the back parking lot, doing scavenger hunts in the play ground, looking for puzzle pieces hidden in the glass house and library, as well as getting completely soaked in the yard-twice! These kids are definitely going home worn out and happy!
One of the highlights of the week was seeing 5 of our boys who went to Camp Anderson giving back by serving as Jr Counselors for the little ones. Nicholas Romig, Alec Ronald, Erik Ronald, Eli Jason, and Anthony Williams have been such a blessing to so many during day camp. They get up and go with the kids all day long without complaint. Thanks so much, guys!!
Building relationships with the kids and families is one of the big goals of day camp. We look forward to seeing these kids join us again over and over as we welcome them to many other opportunities to learn about Christ and be a part of the VPC community throughout the year.
