Genna Sarikoki joins VPC full-time as the Director of Family Development

I am so excited to start as full time staff at VPC! The past 6 years, I have worked in both public and Christian education. I love to see the light bulb turn on when kids learn something new. More than anything else, I love to see kids understand who God is and what He is doing for them.

I have worked on many outreach teams, both local and global. I have traveled with mission teams to China, Argentina, and Poland. I have worked in Baltimore, New York, and Newark with stateside teams. For 3 summers, I was the Director of Cornerstone Day Camp in Hackensack, New Jersey. It has been a joy to walk beside children and families in many walks of life as they see Christ.

As we continue to build the family ministry at Venice Presbyterian, I look forward to seeing many new and familiar faces working together to make Christ known. We will continue to prioritize Buddy Break, capitalize further on our outreach to Venice Elementary School, build further relationships with other local schools, and work on reaching into more local organizations who are reaching families in Venice. Parent support for Buddy Break families and other local parents will be something we will  strive toward.

Sundays in July hold many awesome activities for the entire family! In Kid’s Corner on Sunday mornings, the kids are walking through Psalm 23 as they learn about God as the ultimate shepherd. The waterslide and picnic for Independence Day through the Christmas in July celebration at the end of the month will offer lots of fun after church for everyone!

The Hub Youth Group will continue on Sunday evenings with dinner, redemptive conversation, and activities. We look forward to planning more community outreach to involve the youth in as we mentor them in their walk with Christ. We have an incredible core group of young people and I can’t wait to see what God will do through them in the coming years!

This Summer, we have a lot going on for kids and youth in our church! Day Camp reaches children who have completed Kindergarten through 5th Grade. The kids arrive around 8 o’clock and start the day with devotions and Bible study. They learn throughout the day through crafts, games, imaginative play, and team building exercise. We serve both snacks and lunch, so kids don’t have to bring anything. 2 days of the week are water day where the kids run around the yard with water balloons, super soakers, and buckets having a blast! All of this is offered for only $75 per child as our goal is to simply cover some costs as we teach kids about Christ. We still have several openings for our July 15th-July 19th week and would love to welcome more children!

The youth will be heading off to Camp Anderson July 8th-12th. We leave campus Monday morning, praying that God will show Himself to the kids in mighty ways. Camp is a tech-free zone, where the kids will be challenged morning and night from scripture. They will participate in many camp activities like archery, paintball, river rides, and more. Pray for safety and open hearts as we go!

Pray with me as I jump in with both feet! There will be many, many volunteer opportunities coming as we engage our community. I challenge you to pray with an open heart about where God will use you in this ministry as it grows.
